Lizzy’s Punch

The Phoenix and I have never made that big of a deal about Valentine’s Day.  He always looked at it as some made-up holiday geared towards getting people to spend tons of money to declare their love and I got tired real fast of having to wait hours to have dinner out, just about anywhere.  Not exactly romantic.  But something felt different this year.  My favorite memory of Valentine’s Day growing up was that my mom always got my brother and I a special gift, usually a hand-picked box of our favorite candies and a little something else that was always so thoughtful.  And this year I decided I wanted to start a tradition of something similar, making this holiday special for my little birds too.  I have a special gift ready for each of my Valentines and a menu planned (for at home where there are NO waiting lists) that I hope will make them feel a little extra special today.

And something special made me think of this punch.  My mom made this on so many occasions, and on so many occasions I would drink it ’til I felt sick.  SOOOO good.  (Yes, I have very little, if any, self-control when it comes to delicious food.  So sue me.)  I think the original, original recipe was a little more complex, but this is super easy and can be made by the glass or by the punch bowl, depending on what’s going on.  And what a perfectly colored drink for Valentine’s Day.  Enjoy!
